Last weekend the Birmingham Community Gospel Choir were crowned the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year…and how about this for amazing, they’ll also be part of Cinderella, the World’s Biggest Panto this December!
The Birmingham Community Gospel Choir were founded over 10 years ago and have enjoyed continued success over the years.
The choir were finalists in the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year back in 2013, but two years on, the group were crowned champions following the final at London’s Hackney Empire which hit our television screens last weekend.
The choir will also feature alongside the likes of Bradley Walsh, Paul O’Grady and Dick & Dom in the world’s BIGGEST pantomime this December as Cinderella arrives in Birmingham.
Musical director Maxine Brooks, who founded the Birmingham Community Gospel Choir 10 years ago, spoke to Birmingham Mail off the back of the award: “It was such a great sense of achievement when we were crowned winners, we were all screaming and everyone was in tears.
“I was in shock when they announced the results and dropped to the floor! It was such an amazing feeling as we’re such a close unit, one voice and one body merged together. We rehearsed very hard and I’ve been stricter than I’ve ever been."
"It’s been such a blessing to win and to represent Birmingham in this way. We can’t stop now, our next big event is Gospel Goes Charity on November 5 at Birmingham Town Hall.”
