BBL Cup Final 2014: Glasgow Rocks 71 – 84 Newcastle Eagles

It was a great atmosphere at the Barclaycard Arena on Sunday, as Glasgow Rocks and Newcastle Eagles fought it out for the prestigious BBL Cup!

The event tipped off at 12:00 with the WBBL Trophy final where we saw the Sheffield Hatters defeat Nottingham Wildcats 76 points to 62. After a tightly contested first quarter the Hatters soon asserted their dominance, cruising to their first accolade of the year.

During the break between the two finals the Birmingham crowd were treated to a breath-taking SLAM DUNK CONTEST, which featured a lot of hang-time, spins and of course, pile driving dunks!

Bang on 3:30PM the referee launched the ball into the air for tip-off and the 2015 BBL Cup final was underway!

In the first quarter it seemed as if the pressure of the final was knocking both starting V's, with the scores tied 15 apiece. As the game developed so did the play, with both teams showing glimpses of brilliance.

The Newcastle Eagles carried a healthy lead into the third quarter, bossing the game 40-29. As we moved into the last few minutes the heat was turned up another notch with heroic turnovers, slam dunks and a crazy amount of three pointers!

In the end it was the Eagles who came out on top with a handsome 71-84 win. Rahmon Fletcher was crowned MVP after the final whistle, scoring 15 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Speaking to the Chronicle Live, victorious Newcastle Eagles player-coach Fab Flournoy admitted getting the right blend of players was key to winning the BBL Cup final: “It’s always about finding the right person. In any sport, particularly ours, there’s always talent. But you have to find the right people, player, with talent. And equally you have to find the right players who are going to fit in.”
