Birmingham Connected Update and Works Commencing at Paradise

Starting in 2015, we will see an unprecedented level of investment and activity on the city’s transport network as part of the Birmingham Connected vision.

November 2014 saw the launch of Birmingham Connected which sets out proposals to invest more than £1billion to create an integrated public transport system.  This will support the continuing expansion of both the city’s population and its economy for the next 20 years and beyond. Investment in transport improvements are an essential enabling element in the city’s future growth and prosperity.

In simple terms, Birmingham Connected are set to change the face of Birmingham, giving some areas of our city the redevelopment they desperately need. Which unfortunately, may contribute to a little more traffic around our arena on show nights. Our advice to you, our lovely Barclaycard Arena visitors, is to:

  • Use public transport wherever possible.  The city centre is well served by rail, bus and metro services and with our arena being situated in the heart of Birmingham we are more than accessible from Birmingham New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street.  For more information check out the Network West Midlands website.
  • Plan your journey.  If you have to travel by car, planning alternative routes is key. Give yourself plenty of time to make your way into the city, park up and get to the arena. You can check out a full list of close-by city car parks to help you plan you most efficient journey here.

Starting in 2015, we will see an unprecedented level of investment and activity on the city’s transport network as part of the Birmingham Connected vision.

This week saw the commencement of the £500 million redevelopment at Paradise.  This transformational project is expected to create up to 14,000 jobs.  It will also improve pedestrian and cycling routes through a series of new open streets and public spaces and facilitate planned extensions to the Metro network through to Centenary Square and Five Ways.  Further information on Paradise can be found here.

The works include major changes to Paradise Circus road network.  Delays are expected while these are being carried out.

So, remember, use public transport wherever possible and if you have to travel by car plan your journey. If you stick to these two simple steps, your journey to our arena will be as swift as ever. Right, we’ll leave you to take a look at our upcoming events and we look forward to entertaining you soon!
